Charles Condomine (ALF BLUNDEN), a
successful novelist, had wanted to learn more about the occult for a new
novel he was writing, so he arranged for an eccentric medium, Madame
Arcati (ALISON CUNNELL), to hold
a séance at his house, with invited guests Charles and Ruth Condomine
(PAUL KELLY and DONNA LOVETT). At the séance, she inadvertently summoned
Charles's first wife, Elvira (CAROL JEWELL), who had been dead for seven years. Madame
Arcati left after the séance, unaware that she had summoned Elvira, who
only Charles could see or hear. His second wife, Ruth (CHRISTINE SLATER),
did not
believe that Elvira existed until a floating vase was handed to her out of
thin air. The ghostly Elvira then made continued, and increasingly
desperate, efforts to disrupt Charles's current marriage. The play also
featured ANGELA LAST as Edith the maid. |
